How we got here?

How did I get here?

My parents loved Antiques and refinished a lot of our furniture they found in junk yards. I still have an Antique tin bathtub Daddy found in the 60s in SC. We hunted bottles and insulators and anything Dad found in his treasure magazines.

When I retired in 2002, I decided I had enough "junk" to start selling in an Antique Mall booth in Philadelphia. So then I started working there too. The local Antiques and Collectibles community has been strong together for what seems like forever. Many of us remember the Highland Park Collectors Fair and the old outdoor Flea Market on Hwy 11 & 80 near the current Parrish Tractor. This was the 70s. My grandmother was active in both.

The first year the US 11 Antique Alley route was extended to Meridian, my friend Billy Campbell talked all of us "dealers" into participating. Excited, I searched for a spot to set up at an abandoned service station in Kewanee. I've been there every year since...

Billy was the local coordinator for several years until he moved to Jackson. So I somehow just inherited his job. Now 21 years later, I am still at it. Just junkin' away every day!

I love seeing old friends and making new ones every year. Many of the vendors who set up are from out of state, which always makes it fun. And I look forward to catching up with them all this year, too!

How I got here?

I had proudly helped with our local Antique Alley since 2016 when I created the logo, marketing designs, built the website and began helping with social media, etc. We created a sponsorship plan for local businesses and locals to help us keep it going in our area.

When Teresa approached me at the end of 2022 about taking on a more significant role, I happily jumped at the opportunity. Our goal is to keep it growing and become better for us and future generations.

As an avid lover of all things old being new again, plus growing up intrigued by antiques or "old things" in general by taking one man's "trash" to be a "treasure."  It's true they just don't make things like they used to. And in a predominantly digital world, it's important to remember where we came from and keep this heritage of creating beautifully crafted items and pass them down. From junkin', antiquing, crafting, collecting, great food, and gorgeous views along US Highway 11 & 80, our part of the Antique Alley and yard sale has it all.

A lifelong passion of mine has been to share the genuine southern hospitality and history our area has to offer to the world. So I invite everyone to come to see what it's all about. You will be glad you did.

Let's plan to make great memories, have a conversation, take photos, share them, and buy items with family history and things that tell a story. We will make every year more and more memorable for all to enjoy. I cannot wait to snap a pic with you along the path.
